Under Cover of California's Suffering....

It is all about the fires.
None of us can quite believe what we are seeing...huge firestorms raging over California, destroying homes, lives, businesses, pets, wildlife...and entire ecological systems.

Watching it is horrific...I cannot imagine the grief and pain of the people affected.

An almost unbeliveable and unprecedented tragedy...

It does turn out that Governor Schwarzenegger "vetoed four bills that would have increased staffing and resources", and "other unfulfilled recommendations made to Schwarzenegger...including replacement of helicoptors, increasing staffing..and adding nightime airdrops"

But there are some other things going on right now , too..even as the fires rage...going on under cover of a huge, destructive, tragic plume of smoke...

Today, in Esquire, there is story about two recently fired high-level  (actually no - make that the HIGHEST LEVEL, right under Rice and Powell) State Department offcials .

The story is called,
"The Secret History Of The Impending War With Iran That The White House Doesn't Want You To Know",

and it is terrifying..so much so, in fact, that these former State Department offcials are AFRAID..afraid of Bush, and Cheney..and of Stephen Hadley. Also of others...like Rumsfeld, Rice, Feith, Libby...names we have come to know well.

They say that we are going to war with Iran...and that the plans have been in place for a very long time. If you read this, it will be clear that they are in a position to know.

These brave people are in danger because they have first hand knowlege of things that are dangerous to know - but CRITICAL for us to know - and are speaking out...

but they say, too...that they are tired.  And nobody listens.

ONE MORE THING.

And although it is not as dramatic as war, the implications for the destruction of what is left of our democracy ( if there is any left) is as profound.

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin has scheduled a critical hearing on RELAXING the rules for media consolidation for October 31. The public was not notified until the last minute...only a week's notice, and he is only giving limited time for public testimony.

It is clear he is trying to ram this through despite vocal public opposition...and he just might -if not stopped.

I don't need to tell anyone here on DKos what that would mean for all of us...but if we don't act, and speak out NOW, and get others to speak out...IT WILL HAPPEN .
